If you bring me plums I'll bake you a plum 🍰. 😚 Fondly remembering this cake I made last fall..the plums add the perfect sticky and moistness to the not too sweet crumb. It's perfect with tea or a cup of coffee. I posted about an artisan sourdough recipe I tried the other day in my story. I said I would keep you all posted on that and I haven't had a chance to post the results of the recipe yet. It turned out fantastic and I believe I will be adding that recipe to my collection of oft used and well loved crinkled papers spattered with crumbs and oil. It made the perfect chewy inside and crackly crust. You can find a picture of it in my story. Unfortunately, the parchment paper stuck to the outside and there was no way to get it all off. so we ended up eating paper along with the breadπŸ˜‚πŸ˜… I'll be making a few tweaks to fix that for next time. In fact, since we've already consumed both loaves, I will start another batch tonight. It needs to rise overnight. I haven't had a chance to cook anything else this week. I'm excited about a project I'll be working on tomorrow with my dad and brother. It's something totally new for me and involves building and wood. I'll keep you posted in stories about it. What are you doing today to tend to your heart and What are you doing today to tend to your heart and soul? I want to be intentional with each moment I've been given here on earth. Wow. Really coming to realize what's important now that things I spend most of my time with are not as usual. Cooking for my family and preparing ahead is one way I find myself tending at times. It gives me time to think and listen to music or an encouraging podcast while I make food that I know is nourishing to the body. One of my favorite foods to make is anything that's fermented or aged. Sourdough & cheese are both fun! Yesterday my sister @rosylifestylewellness and I made goat cheese together..the cheese gets to age for a few weeks or months depending on how I decide to let it taste. I'll be continuing this project over the summer as I have time. The cheese gets stored in a cool spot and hopefully we'll get to enjoy it all year long! This is a bit different than my usual posts but it This is a bit different than my usual posts but it's been on my heart a lot recently so I'm going to share it anyways. One of the hardest things about times like these is knowing the wave of impact these next few weeks are going to have on small businesses.. many will likely not be able to continue without weeks of cash flow and will be forced to shut their doors. So what are some things you and I can do to make a difference now? First of all, like, share and tell others about the changes your favorite small businesses are going through. If they are continuing to remain open for sales, support them in whatever way you can. Call in that order for coffee. Buy a gift card. Order doordash from a locally owned restaurant..some restaurant employees will be delivering so you have the opportunity to help twice as much this way. Shop for groceries at your small local grocer. Ask them to bring it to your car or find out if they offer a delivery service to your area. There are many local businesses who will ship if you just ask. Let's all try to help each other out during these next few weeks/months. What are some ideas you have to support a local small business? Years ago, for a special Valentine's day treat, my Years ago, for a special Valentine's day treat, my mom would always make a heart shaped merengue cake and top it with a cherry filling. I remember it was so special each year. When we quit eating a lot of sugar, that cake was one of the things that fell by the wayside. So maybe I will have to try to see if I can come up with a healthier version of it. Last year I created these truffles over Valentine's day. They are so yummy and nice to keep in the fridge and pull one out as a special treat. Last night's 12:30 am bedtime was well worth this Last night's 12:30 am bedtime was well worth this mornings bagel sandwich. How to make your own- Toast both sides of the bagel smear bagel with brown mustard whisk up an egg with a tsp of water and fry..sprinkle with s & p options- bacon, sausage, or fried trail bologna (what I used) top with greens and some fermented veggies like kraut. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € I came home from work yesterday to a bowl of sourdough starter left over from baking bread. I couldn't bear the thought of tossing it out, even tho it was starting to form a dry crust on top and hadn't been fed in a few days.. So I decided to make a batch of sourdough bagels..my favorite recipe for them is super easy but takes a total of about 8 hrs to make. These were going to be cinnamon raisin bagels, but I forgot to fold in the cinnamon layers after the first rise😭😬 So we'll just be having plain raisin bagels over here for a while. They are pretty tasty too. Sometimes I plan ahead when I am baking, but other times I decide to whip something up last minute. When it comes to sourdough baking, there needs to be some forethought put into it or one might be up at 12:30 in the morning finishing up..as was the case with me.last night.
